Scientific Director's Message 

iOTEX has the mission to educate textile and garment experts, which are able to develop and produce textiles according with these aims. For this it needs elaborate curricula, committed teaching staff, well-equipped labs and workshops for training under production conditions. iOTEX has got all of that.

iOTEX covers all fields of classical textiles: the design of textiles, the production of fabrics, dyeing and finishing and the production of garment. On all these various fields one will find experts at iOTEX.

iOTEX also covers all levels of academic education: undergraduate and graduate courses of study and even a PhD programme. Additionally iOTEX educates TVET teachers in the textile and garment field.

One important task of a university is to create and accumulate knowledge. But this knowledge has to be utilized for the benefit of the society. Therefore, iOTEX is disseminating its knowledge as part of regional networks and as a partner for Ethiopian textile and garment companies.

All these activities couldn’t be realized solely by own means. In this context I want to thank the Engineering Capacity Building Programme, The Ministry of Education, the President and Vice-Presidents of Bahir Dar University, and the Supervisory Board for their continuous support and open and helpful discussions. Last but not least I would like to thank all staff members and students of iOTEX for their hard work and for the confidence that in the end this will lead to a benefit for all of us.
