Goals and Approaches to Academic Programmes
The main objectives of the undergraduate and postgraduate programs are to provide broad-based education and training in textile engineering, garment Engineering & Fashion Design; to enable graduates to be creative, adaptable, problem solver in the challenges of the engineering and Design professions in rapidly changing environment that exists in the globe. Moreover, it aims to initiate, develop and sustain research activities that are critical for the advancement of the Ethiopian textile, garment and fashion industry.
Curriculum emphasizes on increasing the practical knowledge of the graduates. The Government of Federal Republic of Ethiopia has demanded the improvement of Engineering Education to make it more relevant to local industries while having internationally acceptable standards. This is reflected in introducing the scheme of internship at undergraduate program.
In addition, with the increasing number of graduates in Textile and garment engineering, it is becoming inevitable that some shall be self-employed. Therefore, the need for training the graduates in entrepreneurship has also been emphasized in the academic program.
In order to accredit the program by European Accreditation Institution, the European Credit Transfer System (ESTS) is used.
